Meet JE McCarthy

A Maine native, JE McCarthy is the author of the award winning historical fiction series, The McGinn Family Saga. The latest release in the book series received two first place medals in the Fall 2024 BookFest Awards for Fiction- Historical- Nautical, War & Military and Fiction- War & Military. He was also honored by BookFest in 2023 when the first 3 books in the series were awarded first place medals for Historical Fiction (The Red Road) and Family Saga (The Mothers McGinn). 

The McGinn Family Saga also earned a First Place Literary Global Book Award, 2023 Debut Novel and Finalist Historical Fiction (The Red Road), First place Spring 2024 BookFest Awards, Family Saga (Counting Crossroads), Winner Literary Global Indie Author-Best Fiction Northeast (The Red Road).

 

McCarthy's deep appreciation for the Maine's rich characters and natural beauty played a large part in his development of the characters and story for the series. His closeness to a number of relatives who had grown up in Central Maine during and before the Great Depression along with their stories greatly influenced his writing.

When he's not writing, JE is a behavioral health nurse in Central Maine. He likes exploring the complexities of human relationships and the ways people and families are shaped by their surroundings. He's fascinated by the unique culture and history of Maine, and the many stories that come from small towns and rural communities throughout the state.

 

McCarthy believes that storytelling is a powerful way to connect with others and to create a sense of community, and hopes that his work inspires readers to explore the beauty and complexity of Maine.
